Actex Study Manual Mfe

I've used Actex only for exams P/1, FM/2, 3L and MFE/3F. I knew very little about any of the subjects going in and never had a college course on them (I didn't know what a probability density function was; I didn't know Bayes' Theorem; I didn't know what an annuity was). I passed P/1 and FM/2 on my first try. And I passed 3L and MFE according to the PAK on my first try.

FWIW, I did pass all of them comfortably. In summary, the Actex study guides combined with many hours of your time should be all you need to pass. On the classic 1 to 10 rating scale: P/1 study guide.8.5.

FM/2 study guide.9.5 MFE/3F study guide.6. 3L/MLC study guide.9.5.The P/1 study guide was more of a guide to probability than it was a guide to passing exam P/1.

This is the reason for my lowish rating.I'm rating MFE/3F guide when used by itself. It is intended to supplement Derivative Markets, which I didn't purchase (at least the one I used was; there may be another one).

This makes some lessons incomplete and forces the student to piece some things together themselves (this might not be a bad thing). Furthermore, the syllabus given by the SOA is short and vague for MFE/3F. It's 1.5 pages and does not mention the weights of topics; compare this to the 3L syllabus, which is 6.5 pages and does mention weights of topics. The writers of MFE/3F guides just don't know how to prepare students, and it's not their fault.

Take a look around the forum, there's a lot of complaining (many of the complainers used ASM or another study method). The Spring '08 sitting caught a lot of 'well prepared' students (myself included) off guard. The test experiences and results might not be a good indicator of the quality of the study guides used. I heard that Actex's (and it's possible I've gotten my manuals mixed up, but I know for sure it's not ASM) for this last sitting (Spring 08) of exam MFE was exactly the same as it's manual for the Fall 07 sitting.

The problem with that is that material was added to the syllabus. I've also heard that within two weeks of this last sitting, Actex's manual for Fall 08 was available for purchase. This leaves one to think that it also wasn't updated. I can agree with that.

Carpentry workshop manual. At the end of each. This subject matter is presented in simple language and in a proper sequence so that an average student can be easily grasp the subject matter.

Spring 08 Actex manual had information in it which had been removed from the syllabus and did not have material that had been added. Errata had been added later that told which problems you didnt need to do and added some stuff for the new material but If I am buying a Spring 08 Study Guide I would think it would be updated for the Spring 08 Exam. I found the Actex to be pretty terrible for MFE.

I used Actex successfully for P and FM (in addition to college courses), and had a class that covered part of MFE's syllabus. The Actex I used (one sitting old) was loaded with errors and typos, and overall used an overly simplistic approach to it all.

Actex Exam P Study Manual

It's as if the authors thought it would be a purely algebraic plug-and-chug exam. I had a friend use ASM which seemed much better, but almost too in-depth and covering some irrelevant stuff. Overall though, the SOA has made it so everyone's just plain guessing what'll be on the next MFE. With my PAK score somewhere in the 11-13 range, I'm waiting anxiously for July 2nd.
